CD-118-400: High-Performance VHF/UHF Aviation Band Coaxial Dipole Antenna

The CD-118-400 is a ruggedized, wideband omni-directional antenna specifically engineered for the 118–400 MHz VHF/UHF aviation band. Designed for critical Air Traffic Control (ATC) sites, this coaxial dipole antenna provides a unified solution for ground-to-air and ground-to-ground communications. Its robust, all-weather construction allows it to replace multiple narrowband antennas, simplifying site architecture and enhancing operational reliability.

Design and Versatility

The CD-118-400 is designed for vertically polarized waves, delivering a consistent 360-degree horizontal radiation pattern. Enclosed in a high-strength ABS radome, the antenna is aerodynamically optimized for low wind loading and to minimize the accumulation of ice. A standout technical feature is the high suppression of skin current, which ensures a smooth VSWR and stable pattern integrity across the entire frequency band. This sturdy design makes it equally suitable for fixed base stations, shipboard mounting, and tactical mobile applications.

Precision Fabrication and Construction

Constructed from 6063T6 ultra-corrosion-resistant architectural aluminum alloy, the internal radiating elements are vertically stacked to maximize signal projection. The antenna integrates a specialized "Choke and Spark Gap" technique, ensuring constant superior performance and electrical stability over the entire 282 MHz bandwidth. To withstand the most aggressive environments, the antenna is supplied with Marine Grade Type 316 Stainless Steel mounting hardware and finished in a durable olive green. The N-Female termination is strategically fixed at the bottom of the mounting pipe for complete weather protection.

Optimized Performance

With a typical gain of 3 dBi and a broad vertical beam-width of 76 degrees, the CD-118-400 provides excellent signal coverage, ensuring reliable links even for aircraft at varying altitudes. It is capable of handling a substantial 500 Watts of RF power, meeting the high-demand requirements of mission-critical communication hubs. The antenna is factory-tuned for immediate "plug-and-play" deployment, requiring no field adjustments or periodic maintenance.

Key Technical Features

  • Military Aviation Comms: Reliable UHF/VHF links for defense and aerospace sectors.
  • Shipboard Radio Systems: Corrosion-resistant wideband communication for naval vessels.
  • Fixed Base Stations: Robust radio infrastructure for multi-channel aeronautical monitoring.

Design Features: CD-118-400 VHF/UHF aviation band coaxial dipole antenna is an omni-directional antenna for vertically polarized waves. CD-118-400 Omni-directional VHF/UHF aviation coaxial dipole antenna is rugged all weather model, enclosed in a ABS radome, uses ultra corrosion resistant aluminum alloy and does not require any field tuning or adjustments. The compact size of omni-directional coaxial dipole antenna allows easy handling, shipping and highly suitable for VHF/UHF ATC sites without having the requirement of multiple antennas. The coaxial dipole antenna features high suppression of skin current which provides the smooth VSWR over the 118-400MHz frequency band. Cylindrical enclosure is used for low wind loading and for minimal effect of ice formation on the antenna operation as well as providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Due to sturdy design the coaxial dipole antenna is highly suitable for fixed station application, shipboard mounting and mobile application.

Constructions: The coaxial dipole antenna is consisting of round diameter radiating elements stacked vertically and enclosed in ABS radome. The special “Choke and Spark Gap” technique is used for constant superior performance over the entire 118-400 MHz. frequency band. The UV resistant ABS enclosure has excellent transparency for RF signals and enough strength to withstand specified wind loads. The N-Female termination of antenna is fixed at the bottom of the mounting pipe for complete weather protection. The marine grade type 316 stainless steel mounting brackets are supplied with the coaxial dipole antenna.
