Overview: GP-136-174 Broadband Omnidirectional Ground Plane Antenna

The GP-136-174 is a high-performance, military-grade Broadband Ground Plane Antenna engineered for absolute reliability across the 136–174 MHz VHF spectrum. Designed to meet the stringent requirements of mission-critical base stations, this antenna is a premier choice for high-power jamming, spectrum monitoring, and tactical communications. By combining a large-diameter aluminum radiator with a ruggedized fiberglass radome, Antenna Experts has created an aperture that ensures zero-failure performance in the world's most punishing environmental theaters.

Tactical Engineering & Construction

Ruggedized architecture designed for persistent field operation. The GP-136-174 utilizes 6063T6 ultra-corrosion-resistant architectural aluminum alloy and marine-grade stainless steel. The radiating element is completely sealed within a high-tech fiberglass enclosure, shielding it from moisture, ice, and corrosive gases. This all-metal internal structure prevents the formation of "signal cells," effectively eliminating inter-modulation within the antenna. The base features a heavy-duty 100 mm x 100 mm "L-type" aluminum plate for secure mounting, and the entire assembly is finished in tactical olive green.

Operational Efficiency

True omni-directional dominance with zero field tuning. Engineered for a stable 2.15 dBi gain and low VSWR across its entire 38 MHz bandwidth, this antenna requires no field adjustments, ensuring immediate "plug-and-play" deployment. Its wide 78-degree vertical beamwidth provides exceptional "null fill," maintaining consistent signal saturation for ground-based and low-altitude aerial links. With a robust 500-Watt power handling capacity, it is ideally suited for high-intensity electronic warfare and persistent convoy signal umbrellas.

Detailed Technical Features: GP-136-174 Broadband Ground Plane

  • Continuous VHF Bandwidth Mastery: Specifically engineered for full-spectrum dominance across the 136 – 174 MHz range. This wideband capability allows a single antenna to support various tactical VHF frequencies without the need for multiple narrowband hardware swaps.
  • High-Power Electronic Attack Ready: Robust architectural design facilitates a massive 500 Watts of RF power handling. This makes it an elite choice for high-intensity jamming, electronic countermeasures (ECM), and strategic tactical broadcasting.
  • Radome-Enclosed Radiator: The large-diameter aluminum radiating element is fully sealed within a high-tech ruggedized fiberglass radome. This ensures the internal array is 100% protected from the detuning effects of moisture, ice, and salt-fog.
  • Inter-Modulation (IM) Suppression: The use of all-aluminum and stainless steel construction prevents the formation of "Signal Cells." By eliminating the diode effect at structural junctions, the antenna effectively suppresses internal inter-modulation, maintaining signal purity during high-power operation.
  • True Omni-Directional Aperture: Delivers a perfectly symmetrical 360-degree horizontal radiation pattern, providing a uniform signal "bubble" for wide-area coverage and comprehensive situational awareness.
  • Consistent "Null Fill" Coverage: Features an exceptionally wide 78-degree vertical beamwidth. This ensures consistent signal saturation at close ranges and varying elevations, effectively eliminating the "blind spots" (nulls) found in higher-gain antennas.
  • Internal Feed Protection: The N-Female termination is integrated into a heavy-duty "L" type aluminum mounting base, providing a secure and low-loss electrical interface shielded from mechanical strain.
  • Rapid Logistics Design: Ground plane radials are removable and made of marine-grade stainless steel. This reduces the shipping length to just 560 mm, allowing for compact transit and rapid tool-free assembly in the field.

Detailed Environmental Specifications (MIL-STD-810G Hardened)

The GP-136-174 is precision-built and rigorously tested to ensure absolute survivability in the most punishing theater conditions:

  • Aerodynamic Integrity: Structurally rated to maintain boresight stability and mechanical safety in constant wind speeds up to 200 Km/Hr (125 MPH).
  • Thermal Extremes: Certified for flawless operation in high/low temperature extremes ranging from -40°C to +80°C (Method 500.5/502.5, Procedures I & II).
  • Marine & Coastal Shielding: All metallic surfaces are treated with a high-durability Military Olive Green finish, providing a resilient barrier against salt spray (Method 509.5) and ultraviolet radiation.
  • Tactical Resilience: Fully tested for High-Impact Shock (Procedure IV) and Tactical Vibration (Procedure I), ensuring the fiberglass radome and stainless steel radials survive heavy-duty vehicle transit or fixed tower mounting.
  • Ingress & Moisture Protection: Certified for 0 to 95% Relative Humidity and high-velocity horizontal rain (Method 507.5/506.5).
  • Biological Resistance: Treated for Fungus Resistance (Method 508.6), preventing structural or electrical degradation in dense, humid tropical environments.
  • Zero-Maintenance Architecture: The combination of 6063T6 aluminum and Type 316 Stainless Steel ensures the antenna remains rust-free and operational for years without requiring field tuning or cleaning.

Key Advantages: GP-136-174 Strategic Superiority

  • Inter-Modulation Free Architecture: By utilizing high-class 6063T6 aluminum and eliminating dissimilar metal junctions, the GP-136-174 prevents the formation of "signal cells." This suppresses internal inter-modulation, ensuring a clean noise floor during high-power 500W transmissions.
  • Radome-Protected Radiator: The large-diameter vertical radiating element is fully enclosed within a high-tech, ruggedized fiberglass radome. This "sealed-unit" design protects the antenna from the detuning effects of ice, snow, and moisture, which frequently plague exposed-element antennas.
  • Superior Null Fill Performance: With a wide 78-degree vertical beamwidth, this antenna provides consistent signal saturation. It effectively eliminates the "cone of silence" and ground-level nulls, ensuring reliable communication with close-range tactical units and low-flying aerial assets.
  • Rapid-Deployment Mechanics: The ground plane radials are designed to be easily removable. This reduces the shipping length to just 560 mm, allowing for compact logistics and tool-free assembly in high-stress theater environments.
  • Industrial Material Integrity: Every structural component—from the 6063T6 aluminum radiating core to the Type 316 marine-grade stainless steel radials—is chosen for maximum survivability against salt spray and chemical corrosion.

Key Benefits: Operational Efficiency

  • Zero-Maintenance Reliability: Once installed, the GP-136-174 requires no periodic cleaning or field tuning. Its fully sealed radome ensures that internal electrical parameters remain stable for years, even in coastal or tropical climates.
  • "Set-and-Forget" Deployment: The antenna is factory-calibrated to provide a low VSWR (Better than 2.1:1) across the entire 136–174 MHz band. This eliminates the need for expensive field testing equipment or technical adjustments during setup.
  • Logistics Simplification: Covering the entire 38 MHz VHF band with a single antenna significantly reduces the spare parts inventory and simplifies the logistics tail for mobile tactical units.
  • Boresight Stability: Engineered with a low-profile radome and sturdy base, the antenna maintains its radiation pattern and mechanical integrity in extreme winds up to 200 Km/Hr.

Key Applications: Mission-Critical Deployments
