AWD-312: Military-Grade UHF Aviation Band Discone Antenna

The AWD-312 is a heavy-duty, wideband discone antenna specifically engineered for military Air Traffic Control (ATC) and ground-to-air communication. Operating across the 225–400 MHz spectrum, this antenna provides a high-efficiency omni-directional solution, allowing military base stations to consolidate multiple communication links into a single, ultra-rugged radiating system.

Design for Extreme Environments

The design of the AWD-312 emphasizes survivability in theater-level conditions. As a fully welded discone antenna, it offers a wide vertical beam-width of 78 degrees, ensuring that high-speed military aircraft can maintain clear voice and data links regardless of their altitude or proximity to the base station. The discone geometry is inherently broadband, providing a stable 50-ohm match and vertical polarization across the entire UHF aviation band without the need for complex internal matching circuits or field tuning.

Fabrication and Material Integrity

Precision fabrication is at the heart of the AWD-312. The hub and radiating elements are constructed from 6063T6 architectural-grade aluminum alloy, chosen for its superior strength-to-weight ratio and natural corrosion resistance. To further protect the system from the elements, all metallic surfaces receive a Military Olive Green (RAL 6003) powder coating. All assembly hardware is made from Type 316 marine-grade stainless steel, preventing galvanic corrosion. The antenna is designed for modularity, with 12 disk elements and 9 cone elements that can be field-assembled in under five minutes.

Discone Antenna is extended for used to communicate with UHF command radio sets in aircraft and such ground UHF stations in the terminal area. This shipboard antenna is designed for maximum vertical beamwidth to communicate with long ranrange and as well as nearby aircraft.

Constructions: AWD-312 Shipboard Discone Antenna is rugged all weather model, uses high-grade brass material and does not require any field tuning or adjustments. The Discone antenna when packed, comes with Cone and Disc elements removed from the antenna body for ease of packing and shipment. The mounting hardware of shipboard antenna is made very versatile which is suitable to mount the antenna upto 52 mm dia pipe.
