The AQY-128 is a strategic, ultra-high-gain quad-stacked Yagi array system specifically engineered for the VHF Aviation Band (117–137 MHz). Delivering a massive 17.5 dBi gain, this system is designed for "extra-long-range" Air Traffic Control (ATC) sites. It is the premier choice for managing aircraft in deep Oceanic Information Regions (OIC) or covering specific sectors of a Flight Information Region (FIR) where standard directional antennas lack the necessary reach.

Strategic Quad-Array Performance

The AQY-128 achieves its extreme performance by phasing four high-quality 5-element Yagi antennas into a single array. This configuration provides a massive 17.5 dBi gain, effectively quadrupling the effective radiated power (ERP) compared to a single Yagi. When stacked vertically, the system creates a razor-sharp 15-degree vertical beam-width, concentrating RF energy toward the horizon for maximum signal penetration over oceans and long flight corridors. The array utilizes a solid air-cored 4-way power splitter and specialized low-loss phasing harnesses to ensure all four antennas are perfectly synchronized for peak efficiency.

Industrial-Grade Construction

Built to withstand the severe environments of oceanic and coastal sites, the AQY-128 is constructed from 6063T6 architectural-grade aluminum alloy. Every component, from the 25 mm support booms to the 19 mm radiating elements, is designed to prevent corrosion. All mounting hardware and fasteners are manufactured from marine-grade stainless steel. This rugged mechanical design allows the massive array to maintain structural integrity in hurricane-force winds up to 200 KMPH, ensuring the focused signal beam remains precisely aligned with the intended flight sector.

Operational and Logistical Efficiency

Despite its high-performance footprint, the AQY-128 is designed for manageable logistics. For shipping, the elements are removed from the booms, allowing the system to fit into a 2.5-meter package. Assembly is straightforward and can be completed on-site using simple hand tools. The system's 1000-Watt power handling capacity and high 21 dB Front-to-Back ratio make it highly efficient for strategic hubs, allowing it to "burn through" interference and maintain clear communication with distant aircraft while ignoring noise from the rear of the array.

Detailed Technical Features

  • Extra-Long-Range Gain: Delivers a massive 17.5 dBi typical gain. This extreme power concentration allows ATC centers to communicate with aircraft deep into Oceanic Information Regions (OIC) where standard antennas fail to maintain a link.
  • Precision Beam Shaping: The radiation pattern is highly directional, offering different beam-widths based on the stacking orientation:
    • Vertical Beam-width: 15 Degrees (when stacked vertically). This razor-thin elevation beam focuses energy toward the horizon, minimizing ground-reflection interference.
    • Horizontal Beam-width: 60 Degrees. Provides broad sectoral coverage, ideal for monitoring a wide flight corridor or bay.
  • Advanced RF Distribution: The system includes a solid air-cored 4-way power splitter/combiner and four low-loss phasing harness cables. This ensures that RF power is distributed with perfect phase synchronization across all 20 elements.
  • High Power Capacity: Rated for 1000 Watts, making it suitable for high-intensity strategic broadcasts or "burn-through" transmissions in high-interference zones.
  • Signal Purity: Features a 21 dB Front-to-Back ratio, which ensures the array ignores unwanted noise and signals originating from behind the station, providing a significantly cleaner receive floor.

Detailed Mechanical Features

  • Military-Grade Materials: The entire array is constructed from 6063T6 architectural-grade aluminum alloy, chosen for its superior strength-to-weight ratio and natural resistance to corrosion.
  • Structural Integrity:
    • Support Booms: 25 mm diameter heavy-wall aluminum tubing.
    • Radiating Elements: 19 mm diameter solid aluminum rods for maximum rigidity.
    • Fasteners: All nuts, bolts, and mounting hardware are manufactured from Type 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel.
  • Logistical Optimization: For ease of transport, the system is designed with removable elements. Despite its massive operational footprint, the shipping length is reduced to just 2.5 meters.
  • Rapid Field Assembly: The array is factory-tuned and designed to be assembled on-site using simple hand tools, allowing for relatively quick deployment at strategic hubs.
  • Weight & Mounting:
    • Gross Weight: 35 Kgs (77 lbs).
    • Mounting Interface: Designed to secure onto vertical support pipes up to 51 mm (2 inches) in diameter.

Detailed Environmental Features

The AQY-128 is specifically hardened for the most severe oceanic and coastal climates:

  • Hurricane survival: Aerodynamically balanced to survive wind speeds up to 200 KMPH (125 MPH), maintaining beam alignment during extreme weather events.
  • Oceanic Resilience: Specifically engineered to resist Salt Fog (Method 509.5) and high-salinity humidity (0 to 95% RH), making it the primary choice for "Gulf" and offshore installations.
  • Thermal Hardening: Operational in extreme temperature windows from -30°C to +70°C and storage-rated up to +80°C.
  • Bio-Resistance: Materials and finishes are compliant with Fungus Resistance (Method 508.6), a critical requirement for long-term deployment in tropical or jungle-bordering coastal zones.
  • Static Dissipation: The D.C. grounded design ensures that atmospheric static is safely bled off to ground, reducing receiver noise and providing a layer of protection against lightning transients.

Key Advantages

  • Maximum Link Margin: The primary advantage is its massive 17.5 dBi gain. This effectively quadruples the effective radiated power (ERP) compared to a single yagi, allowing ATC centers to maintain consistent contact with aircraft deep into Oceanic Information Regions (OIC).
  • Precision Beam Shaping: By stacking the antennas, the system creates a razor-sharp 15-degree vertical beam-width. This concentrates RF energy toward the horizon, minimizing ground-reflection interference and maximizing signal penetration over long distances.
  • Superior Signal Purity: With a 21 dB Front-to-Back ratio, the array effectively ignores noise and interference originating from behind or beside the station. This ensures high-fidelity voice and data reception even in signal-congested environments.
  • Heavy-Duty Power Density: Engineered for high-intensity strategic broadcasts, the system is rated for 1000 Watts, allowing it to "burn through" interference or provide high-power emergency signals.
  • No Field Tuning: Every component is factory-tuned to cover the full 117–137 MHz band. This "plug-and-play" architecture eliminates the risk of human error during installation and ensures peak performance immediately.

Strategic Benefits

  • Sectoral Adaptability: The system is highly versatile; it can be stacked horizontally to cover narrow flight strips or vertically to provide broad coverage over oceanic bays, allowing ATC centers to customize their signal footprint to match specific flight information regions (FIR).
  • Logistical Agility: Despite its massive operational footprint, the system is designed with removable elements and a 2.5-meter shipping length. It can be transported in standard tactical vehicles and reassembled on-site with basic hand tools.
  • Oceanic Survival: The combination of 6063T6 aluminum and 316 stainless steel hardware makes the array immune to the corrosive effects of salt fog and high humidity. This ensures a service life measured in decades, even in the harshest maritime theaters.
  • Equipment Protection: The D.C. grounded design provides a safe discharge path for atmospheric static and lightning-induced surges, protecting expensive radio transceivers and sensitive receivers from damage.

Primary Applications

1. Oceanic Air Traffic Control (ATC): The premier choice for managing international aircraft traffic over deep oceanic corridors (OIC zones) where "deep sector" coverage is required to bridge the gap between ground stations and airborne assets.

2. Strategic Flight Information Regions (FIR): Provides high-gain coverage for specific sectors of national airspace, ensuring dedicated, high-intensity signal strength along approach and departure vectors for international flight paths.

3. Tactical Command & Control (C2) Hubs: Used by mobile units to establish an extra-long-range "bridge" to airborne assets or remote landing strips. Its high power handling and extreme gain make it a staple for large-scale forward-operating bases.

4. Coastal Surveillance & SIGINT: A specialized tool for monitoring aeronautical communications along maritime borders, allowing for the directional capture of extremely weak signals from distant sources over the water.

5. Ground-to-Air Radio Relay: Acts as a powerful directional relay point for extending the range of VHF networks in mountainous or remote coastal terrain where line-of-sight is obstructed by geography.
