The BVM-108-175 is a high-performance VHF Military & NATO Vehicular Antenna designed for seamless spectrum dominance across the 108–175 MHz frequency range. This vertically polarized coaxial dipole is engineered to provide a single-antenna solution for civilian aviation, maritime VHF, and military tactical bands. Optimized for ground-to-ground and ground-to-air communication, it eliminates the need for complex antenna arrays while providing superior suppression of skin currents for stable RF performance in the most demanding combat environments.

Design: Advanced Coaxial Dipole Engineering

The BVM-108-175 is crafted to provide an unbroken RF link for scanning, monitoring, and high-power jamming applications. By utilizing a specialized coaxial dipole design, the antenna achieves high suppression of skin currents, ensuring a smooth and consistent VSWR across the entire 108–175 MHz band. This design allows for "plug-and-play" operation with no field tuning or adjustments required. Its cylindrical, low-drag radome is aerodynamically optimized to minimize wind loading and prevent ice accumulation, making it an aesthetically pleasing yet technically superior choice for high-speed tactical platforms.

Durability: MIL-SPEC Resilience and Maritime Protection

Built for ultimate survivability, the BVM-108-175 is encased in a high-impact, UV-resistant ABS radome that protects internal elements from extreme environmental stress. The internal radiating structure is fabricated from ultra-corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy, with all elements fully welded to prevent RF inter-modulation. For naval or coastal operations, the system includes marine-grade Type 316 stainless steel mounting brackets. Whether deployed on a main battle tank, a naval vessel, or a fixed station, the antenna is engineered to withstand specified wind loads and maintain operational integrity in the harshest climates.

Efficiency: Optimized Ground-to-Air Signal Integrity

The BVM-108-175 delivers a constant 2.5 dBi gain, providing the robust link margin necessary for reliable communication with both ground units and maneuvering aircraft. The vertically stacked radiating elements produce a true omni-directional radiation pattern, ensuring a consistent 360-degree horizontal field of coverage. With its N-Female termination fixed at the bottom of the mounting pipe, the connection remains 100% shielded from moisture and dust, ensuring that the high-gain performance is never compromised by the elements during critical surveillance or defense missions.

VHF Interference Management Guide: Enhancing Performance with Skin Current Suppression

On a metallic tactical vehicle or naval vessel, the antenna doesn't operate in a vacuum—it interacts constantly with the vehicle's body. The BVM-108-175 is specifically engineered with high skin current suppression to ensure that your radio’s energy goes into the air, not into the chassis.

1. Understanding the "Skin Current" Problem

In the VHF band (108–175 MHz), RF energy has a tendency to travel back down the outside of the coaxial cable and onto the vehicle’s metallic skin.

  • The Consequences: This creates "Common Mode" interference, which can cause the vehicle's electronics to malfunction, trigger false sensors, or even give the operator a minor RF burn when touching a radio.
  • The BVM Advantage: The internal coaxial dipole architecture of the BVM-108-175 acts as a natural "choke." It traps the RF energy within the radiating elements, preventing it from "leaking" onto the mounting pipe or the vehicle’s surface. This results in a much cleaner electromagnetic environment inside the cabin.

2. Stabilizing the Radiation Pattern

When an antenna leaks current onto the vehicle body, the vehicle becomes part of the antenna. This sounds efficient, but it actually distorts the signal.

  • The Distortion: Instead of a perfect 360° circle, your signal becomes "lopsided," with huge blind spots depending on where you are parked relative to the target.
  • The BVM Advantage: By suppressing skin currents, the BVM-108-175 maintains its true omni-directional pattern. Whether you are communicating with a ground team or a high-altitude aircraft, the 2.5 dBi gain remains constant in every direction, regardless of the vehicle's shape or size.

3. Reducing Inter-Modulation Interference

On modern platforms equipped with multiple radios and jammers, "RF Noise" is a constant threat.

  • The Welded Advantage: In the BVM-108-175, all internal elements are fully welded. Traditional antennas often use mechanical joints that can corrode over time, creating "micro-cracks" that generate Passive Inter-Modulation (PIM). These PIM signals act like static, drowning out weak incoming signals. Our welded construction ensures that the electrical path remains "dead silent," allowing for maximum receiver sensitivity.

4. Maritime and Shipboard Integration

Saltwater is highly conductive and can significantly alter an antenna's performance if not properly managed.

  • The Reliability Factor: Using Type 316 Stainless Steel mounting brackets ensures that the physical connection to a ship’s mast or rail stays structurally sound. The skin current suppression is particularly vital here, as it prevents the signal from "coupling" with the ship’s rigging, which can cause massive VSWR spikes during heavy seas.

Tactical VHF Performance Checklist

  • Direct NATO Mounting: When mounting to the NATO 4-hole flange, ensure the mating surface is clean. Even though the antenna is ground-independent, a solid mechanical bond ensures the structural integrity of the skin current suppression system.
  • Cable Routing: Route the coaxial cable through the center of the mounting pipe. This uses the pipe as an additional layer of RF shielding, further isolating your sensitive radio equipment from the high-power transmit signal.
  • Radome Maintenance: The high-impact ABS radome is RF-transparent. If it becomes covered in thick salt crust or metallic-rich mud, wipe it down. While the antenna is rugged, a clean radome ensures the 2.5 dBi gain is not attenuated by external debris.
  • Interference Check: If you experience "static" in your speakers when transmitting, it usually means skin currents are escaping. The BVM-108-175 is designed to prevent this; if it occurs, check the integrity of your coaxial connectors and ensure they are hand-tight and dry.

Design Features: BVM-108-163 Omni-directional VHF ground to air aviation band antenna is rugged all weather model, enclosed in a ABS radome, uses high class brass and aluminum alloy and does not require any field tuning or adjustments. The compact size (0.9Meter shipping length) of omni-directional VHF ground to air antenna allows easy handling, shipping and highly suitable for for receiving, transmitting, scanning, monitoring and jamming applications without having the requirement of multiple antennas. The N-Female termination of antenna is fixed at the bottom of the mounting flange for complete weather protection.

Constructions: The VHF ground to air aviation band antenna is consisting of large diameter radiating elements stacked vertically and enclosed in ABS radome. The special “Choke and Spark Gap” technique is used for smooth VSWR and constant 3dBi. gain over the entire 108-163 MHz. frequency band. The UV resistant ABS enclosure has excellent transparency for RF signals and enough strength to withstand specified wind loads. Cylindrical shell/enclosure is used for low wind loading and for minimal effect of ice formation on the antenna operation as well as providing an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Mounting: This vehicle mount antenna can be supplied with standard NATO 4 holes pattern with or without stainless steel spring. The mounting hardware is made of marine grade stainless steel. Customized mounting arrangements can also be supplied on request.
