Ground-to-Air Integration Guide: Maintaining UHF Links with Maneuvering Aircraft

In tactical aviation, the "Ground-to-Air" (G/A) link is the most challenging RF environment. Unlike ground-to-ground communication, where antennas are usually on the same horizontal plane, G/A links must account for extreme changes in altitude and the physical banking of the aircraft. The BVM-225-400 is specifically designed to solve these three critical challenges.

Standard vertical antennas have a "null" directly above them, meaning that if an aircraft flies directly over your vehicle, the signal will drop out.

Tactical G/A Installation Checklist

  • Clear View of the Sky: The BVM-225-400 should be the highest point on the vehicle. Any metallic object (like a roof rack or a second antenna) within the "near-field" (approx. 60cm) can distort the elevation pattern and create artificial "dead spots" in the sky.
